It is with great sadness that we have to announce that the creator of The Labyrinth of East London Lore, Dr T., has passed away. Helping people through his website gave him no end of pleasure. If you had contact with him and would like to leave a message, please send us an e-mail here.

DEATH NOTICE: see the Cape Archives, MOOC 6/9/374, No 656.
OBITUARY: see the Daily Dispatch, 16.2.1898 and 17.2.1898.

Arthur Wilhelm Ludwig Uting was born in Potsdam (Germany) in December 1850 and emigrated to the Cape Colony in 1878.

Uting was elected to the Town Council unopposed for Ward 3 in August 1895 but failed to gain re-election in February 1896.

He died at Stutterheim on 15 February 1898, at the age of 47.
